It’s nearly mid-summer which means another long weekend! Read on for a few ideas, or check out our full August long weekend event listing.

1. Festival of Friends (August 3-5)

Jam out at one of Hamilton’s most well-known music festivals, the Festival of Friends (August 3 – 5) back at Gage Park.  Since 1976 the festival has showcased a variety of music, arts and crafts, food, many activities as well as local businesses and vendors. Bonus: admission is free. This year’s headliners include, Sam Roberts Band (Friday), High Valley (Saturday), Tom Cochrane with Red Rider (Sunday).


 

2. Rollerskating on the Waterfront (August 3-6)

 

Lace up your skates and boogie  to the sound of DJ beats as you glide across Hamilton’s Bayside Roller Rink at Pier 8. Bring your skates or rent a pair at the Pier and enjoy the atmosphere. Music will be playing 7-11pm August 3-4.  Or have a seat and just watch – hours of entertainment guaranteed.  Nearby amenities include great waterfront trails, bike rentals, the Harbour West Trolley  that travels the 12-kilometre Waterfront Trail, and the HMCS Haida, a WWII tribal class destroyer turned museum ship, docked at Pier 9. 3. Dundurn Historic Garden Tours (August 4-5)

Tours of Dundurn National Historic Site

Explore the historic gardens of Hamilton’s Dundurn Castle. Experience the kitchen and garden of the MacNab family 150 years ago through stories and knowledge shared by costumed interpreters 12:30-1:30pm and 2-3pm.


 

4. The Enchanted Garden at RBG (August 4-6)

Discover a land of  gnomes, fairies, pixies, and sprites! August 4-6 Royal Botanical Gardens‘ Rock Garden turns into a magical land where visitors have the opportunity to meet mystical creatures, participate in charmed activities, and learn the buried secrets of the Enchanted Garden 11am-4pm.

 


 

5. Ice Cream Carnival (August 5-6)

 

Celebrate summer with the sweet taste of ice cream at Westfield Heritage Village’s family event. Enjoy Edwardian carnival foods, games, amusements and music. Hand cranked real ice cream making demonstrations and samples throughout the day from 10am – 4pm.

 


 

6. Round the Resevoir Family Race (August 4)

 

Compete with your family in this around the reservoir challenge filled with puzzles and clues that must be completed to win. You decide which route to take and what mode of transportation (run, hike, bike or boat) to get the best finishing time!! Prizes for the top 3 families for the fastest times!
